The Kent Painters' Group:
Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture - 2008
Sevenoaks School, Sevenoaks, Kent
The Kent Painters' Group (KPG) holds an annual autumn art exhibition in
aid of 5 local Kent charities.
The art exhibition and art sale is a chance to buy quality works from
acclaimed artists and sculptors at realistic prices as the overheads are
low. As a result of this, you, the charities and the artists all benefit.
The Kent charities supported are:

The Kent Painters’ Group show (now widely known
by just its initials of ‘KPG’) was the creation of three good friends who
decided to hold a show of pictures to aid mental health.
Quickly realising that the proposed ‘old garage’ would be too small; the
artists asked a local school to help, which they kindly did. Over the
years, more and more artists have accepted invitations to show and the
event quickly moved to Combe Bank School where it remained until 2006.
Prices are kept as low as possible – the charities should benefit as much
as they can – and the commission which is passed on to the charities after
the minimal expenses of holding the show remains at twenty-five per cent;
a further incentive for artists to show as they are more used to a
gallery’s forty per cent.
Currently, over £175,000 has been raised for local mental health and
disabilities charities, and the move to Sevenoaks School means that the
show and its popularity continues apace. The Saturday invitation only
‘Private Viewing’ is an established social event whilst the popular Sunday
‘Family Occasion’ attracts more and more visitors each year.
A hallmark of the success of KPG and the relaxed format of the annual art
show is fittingly illustrated by the fact that the Committee still
includes Maxine Magan, Jean Christopherson and Jane Mackay – those three
friends and the founder members.
